California claimed a six-shot lead Friday at the John Burns Intercollegiate, topping Texas A&M by six shots at Turtle Bay Resort.
The Golden Bears were led by Max Homa, who finished in a three-way tie for medalist honors with Virginia’s Ben Kohles and A&M’s John Hurley at 10 under. Also placing in the top 10 for Cal were Eric Mina (T-6), 2009 U.S. Amateur champion Ben An (T-8) and Stephen Hale (T-8).
Cal, which finished at 30-under 834, turned in a final-round score of 11-under 277 to hold off the Aggies and third-place Virginia. New Mexico finished fourth at 12 under, while Nevada (10 under) rounded out the top five.
The win was the Golden Bears’ third of the season, tying a school record for most victories in a regular season.
