Want to introduce your kids to some great poets, get them doing some creative writing exercises, teach them the basics of poetry and have fun along the way? Starting tomorrow, I’ll be sharing lesson plans for a 10-week poetry course for kids of all ages.
What can you expect in the course?
- An introduction for kids to famous poets, poems and types of poetry
- Weekly poetry exercises
- Information on where kids can publish their works
- A focus on fun with the message that anybody can be a poet
Before becoming a homeschooling mother, poetry was one of my passions. I majored in creative writing and have had over 100 poems published in journals, newsletters and anthologies. I once served as the poetry editor for Mankato State University’s Muse Magazine and have experience giving poetry readings at area sites like The Coffee Hag and on local television programs.
I have been doing poetry exercises with my own kids and thought it could be fun to share them here.
I’ll post a new lesson plan in this column each Monday. I hope you’ll join us!
