ST. DAVID’S-IN-THE PINES EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
The junior garden club, God’s Little Gardeners, is dedicating its Butterfly Treasure Garden at 10 a.m. today. The club is sponsored by the Wellington Garden Club, whose members have helped the children carve out a garden filled with native butterfly-friendly plants with emphasis on water conservation and the use of recycled material. The public is invited to attend. The school is at 465 W. Forest Hill Blvd., Wellington.
GLADES CENTRAL HIGH
Juliana Prieto, a 2010 graduate, has been awarded a scholarship from the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. She is one of 1,000 students around the country chosen to receive the scholarship, which covers tuition, room, board and other expenses and provides academic support, mentoring and leadership training.
THE IDEAL SCHOOL
Principals Wendy Soderman and Kris Soderman honored teachers Laura Ferreira, Nancy Kordick, Catalina Uribe, Eileen Kozyra, Dina Huddleston, Sophie De La Paz, Beatriz Payot, and Renata Guitart with the school’s inaugural Dedication Awards for five years of service. Teachers honored for 10 years of dedication were: Lisa Toth, Stacy Martin, Annmarie Mitchell, and Heather Flores . The teachers received a decorative crystal award to commemorate their achievements.
WELLINGTON HIGH
The Debate and Forensic Team has received $600 worth of scripts and poetry collections via the DonorsChoose.org program. Last month debate coach Paul Gaba registered his project requesting 18 poetry books and anthologies and 14 script compilations he selected from one of DonorsChoice.org’s partners, Barnes & Noble. Three days after the project was approved by the organization, it was funded by an anonymous donor from New York City.
