Syracuse Universitys College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and VPAs Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music will host a concert by the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra (SSYO) on Sunday, May 22, at 4 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. The concert is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in Booth Garage and Marion and Waverly lots.

The SSYO will perform under the direction of conductor James R. Tapia, who is also an associate professor and interim co-director of the Setnor School of Music. The SSYO will perform the Sibelius Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43.

The concert will also feature the Syracuse Symphony Youth String Orchestra (SSYSO) under the direction of conductor Muriel Bodley, also a faculty member in the Setnor School. The SSYSO will perform Dvoks Symphony No. 8 in G Major for String Orchestra, Faurs Pavane in F-sharp Minor and Millers Finger Lakes Suite. Violinist Vladimir Pritzker will appear as guest soloist on the Dvok piece.

The SSYO is made up of 90 musicians from Central New York; the SSYSO has 70 members. The SU performance is the final concert of the orchestras 2010-11 season. It was previously scheduled for May 15 at the Civic Center.
